A 12-years-old boy returns to Ukraine from the temporarily occupied territories

Over the past weekend, a 12-year-old Danylo* (the name was changed for security reasons) returned to Ukraine from the temporarily occupied territories!

The boy's mother died during the occupation. Danylo's aunt did everything possible to return him, but the conditions changed constantly.

In September, the boy was supposed to be placed in an orphanage in the temporarily occupied territories, but thanks to the joint efforts of the Ukrainian Child Rights Network and its partners, the boy was rescued before it became a reality.

The Ukrainian Child Rights Network and the Ministry of Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine helped with the necessary documents, thought through the logistics to the last detail, and organized a safe return.

We are happy to see Danylo and his family, who were finally able to hug him!

The Way Home is a project aimed at finding and returning children displaced to Russia or non-government-controlled areas of Ukraine, as well as reuniting families whose children were without parents during the occupation. The Ukrainian Child Rights Network implements the project in partnership with Save the Children in Ukraine.

Our other partners are the Ministry of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine, the Office of the Ombudsman of Ukraine, the EDUKIDS Charitable Foundation, Media Initiative for Human Rights.
