Another Ukrainian child has been successfully brought home from occupation as part of President Zelenskyy’s Bring Kids Back UA initiative. This rescue was made possible through the tireless efforts of our partners at the Ukrainian Child Rights Network.
At the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Dmytro’s home region was quickly occupied. Unable to evacuate, the family faced severe hardship due to his grandmother’s critical illness. Frequent internet disruptions and power outages cut Dmytro off from his education, leaving him without access to remote schooling.
The family endured weeks of unbearable conditions – power cuts, water shortages, and the constant strain of living under occupation. The psychological toll weighed heavily on Dmytro, who struggled to see a future or pursue his dreams.
Recognizing the growing danger, Dmytro’s mother reached out to the Ukrainian Network for Children’s Rights helpline, desperately seeking a way to evacuate her son. While she stayed behind to care for her bedridden mother, a safe route was quickly organized for Dmytro.
At the border, Dmytro was met by a relative who will provide care and support as he begins to rebuild his life. Now safe in Ukraine, Dmytro is looking toward the future with renewed hope. He is eager to continue his education and reunite with his friends, who have also endured the war’s hardships.
For security reasons, Dmytro’s name has been changed.
